Savage Island is a subtle, though fantastic record. It may take a few listens and one has to get past the light, retro-sounding production, which makes the band sound like they are far off in a corner somewhere.

But the Bomboras have nailed the mood perfectly. Some of the songs, all of which are instrumentals, are relatively dark for the surf genre.

Whenever the Wurlitzer piano kicks in, the songs really take off. Many surf and garage bands employ such instruments, but few really know how to play them. The Bomboras sounded even better on future records after they added a second guitarist to their lineup. But Savage Island, at a compact minute-length, is an enjoyable, adventurous romp through exotic, Barr* - Nevai* - The Rainbow Supremacy islands.

  6. BOMBORAS,THE: Savage Island! BACK IN STOCK!!!!! Surf meets exotica. The Bomboras debut album is all about the interplay of garage, surf and tiki/island sounds to provide a driving beat and exotic sounds. Not quite like other surf revival bands, this is more moody than fun in the sun.

  9. The Bomboras "Savage Island" is pleasant listening for instrumental fans, but nothing more. When I had listened to it I realized that nothing had really stood out and grabbed my attention. If you were having a small dinner party, and wanted unobtrusive background music, this CD might be a good choice/5(5).
